I’ve read in some of the non-trapper, more home owner with a problem websites that peanut butter is good for cage trapping. Yeah, I’ve tried it for bird seed robbing squirrels and it works. But does anyone use it in the fall for coon in DPs?
My trapping for the year is pretty much done so recipe testing is on the horizon. But if I had some direction from you, it would shorten the learning curve.

Peanut butter on a cypress stump in the water will catch plenty of coon. With freezing weather I would think the scent not as strong.

Seems like peanut butter would attract deer to a DP.

I know a guy that uses grape jelly on bread. He swears by it for coon. My son used to use to put grape jelly in an eggshell and throw it in his cage traps and caught lots of 'coon.

The last comment has me thinking...could a deer get caught by their tongue in a pull only DP if baited with corn or peanut butter??? I just think peanut butter on a dp is a bad idea

The first yr I trapped as a kid I did not have any bait or lure. I used fish heads, peanut butter, and bacon grease. I didn't set the world on fire but I caught fur and bet I still could if that was all I had.
PPL race to find the best meat based bait and a lot of things work. Subtle would be Cavens Just mice and Cletus Richards has some tainted stuff that is awesome. There is everything in between out there. I still throw some table scraps in the bait bucket. A T-bone stakes itself down and liver fresh or tainted is a slam dunk bait. I figure so long as Im on location and get something interesting visual, where they are necked down to a small area, and a gland lure or urine should put them where I want them to smell something enticing and I should get fur. .
Fun tip- if you are wondering about something make more sets and try it. Any of your wifes extracts will catch coon I assure you.

It’s real muddy right now and I may have to experiment with peanut butter and grape jelly to see what attracts more.

4 oz. Honey 2oz. Molassis 1 tsp. Vanilla 1tsp. Anise Mix and combine with 6oz. Peanut Butter, works well for catching coons around here.
