Seen a beaver stuck to the rail like that, only his belly fur was frozen.Looked like he was doing push ups trying to get unstuck.

If you have never hung a snare on an abandon rail your missing some fox. Ever notice fox tracks on the steel on a frosty morning.

I once read where they nailed pieces of steel to trees and coated them with blood to catch weasels by the tongue.

I once read where they nailed pieces of steel to trees and coated them with blood to catch weasels by the tongue. That’s true my dad did that when he was a boy, that would have been back in the 20s and 30s, he always said he wouldn’t do it nowadays but back then it was a matter of survival as the money was desperately needed to live on and they had no traps or money to buy some, and chunks of scrap metal were easy and free to get Lots of other ways he told me that they took game and fur that were effective but not very nice such as catching ducks on baited fish hooks all something we as sportsmen would look down on someone doing nowadays but back then it was often seen as a nessassary evil
