I have them. I don't wear them all the time because I don't like the feeling of having them in my ear. For outdoor activities they make a huge difference turkey, grouse and duck hunting as well as listening to the hounds on a chase. On windy days they are a pain. Inside, unless in a crowded room, I can be a part of more conversations whether I want to or not.

Eh?????

I've had tinnitus, in my right ear, for some thirty odd years now. I'm (also?) practically stone deaf in that ear.

They say I'm about 80% deaf in my left ear too. Not that I can hear them. LOL!

Years ago, they had me in for a check up from the neck up. Gave me a single hearing aid, for my left ear. It was Fantastic!!! I could hear a pin drop. I became a social animal again. Enjoying conversations and such. Dog chewed it!

Years later, I fessed up to that. Another battery of tests. Gave me Two. Matched pair of Siemens ~ so, no muck 'n rubbish. Totally useless. Couldn't hear a train passing. They live in my jacket pocket now. Been there for years.

So, yeah; I spend what little social interaction I get, cupping my left ear at anyone and shouting, " Eh?! " How I'd Love to have that first hearing aid back frown

I have 60% loss in Left ear.... 30% loss in Right. Ringing in my ears most always.
Doctor said 1 more good blast from a firearm could deafen me on Left side.

Just dont have the kinda cash to do much about it yet.

Adult kids say DAD ....how can you have the tv on at level 45 sound.

WHAT? EH'?

If cost is an issue some Medicare Advantage plans now cover some hearing aid expenses. Basic Medicare does not. Look at your plan.

On my 3rd pair, paid the premium for the first pair, Costco for the last two. Love the newest pair, $1800 and they are better that the first pair that I paid 4k for 15 years ago. I can't hear anything without them.

It seam like one the hearing aid Co. get in to you your hooked. You will always need up grades. My brother in law uses a cheap aid using his old ear mold and works better than is 6 grand set.

I am on my fourth set. A couple of them were 6,000 sets. The last ones came from Costco and are far better than any of the others at half the price. Costco carries a couple of different name brands and also their own name brand. Their brand is made by one of the name brands. I recently had mine sent back to the factory for upgrade and set a set of their brand as loaners. They were very good. When I need new ones I will probably go that route.

My wife has had hearing aids since 1999. Her hearing is poor so we have high quality hearing aids for her. With no audio insurance that is a nice vacation trip every 4-5 years plus quarterly updates and checks. Her hearing has degenerated consistently since she was first tested. (both her mom and dad had hearing issues as well.) She has lost 60% in the poorer ear and close now over 40% in the better ear. The real issue for her is almost any background noise interferes with her being able to hear conversation. Not fun for her at events like Thanksgiving, Easter or Christmas when the gang meets and lots of conversations going on at once.
When I am out of the house early I know she has not put her hearing aids in yet as I can hear the TV from outside of the house! Also there are some tones she hears very well and some not at all. When she sets a timer she can't hear it go off. We need to find one with a different tone.

If you old guys are veterans you should ask VA, I think they do the exam and pay for the device. A cheap set isn't going to do anything about the problem frequencies, they just make everything loud. Proper hearing aids should only amplify the frequency sounds that you have trouble with. I've had tinnitus since the '70s and hearing devices in both ears for about ten years; they don't fix all the hearing loss but do help a lot unless in a crowd or a restaurant- it is unbelievable how much people bang on their dishes and crash their cups into the saucers.

ps And for the folks that are totally deaf in one ear they make earpieces that communicate that side to the other ear, cousin had those for a few years.

I recently purchased some at CostCo and yes they are not cheap. They sure help me when I am deer hunting. Usually I don't wear them around the house because I don't want to hear my wife. LOL

5th set or maybe 6th. Tinnitus in both ears since 15 or so. Speech definition loss 60% left ear and 40% right. Yep background noise is the worst to deal with as are kids hollering once turn em up to hear others. Find myself reading lips more all the time. Just how life is. Guard what hearing you have left as the damage is cumulative and doesn't heal as it is nerve damage.

My last 2 sets are behind the ear as they are the most powerful and can be computer tuned for noise rejection. They still don't work for me so they sit on my desk and gather dust mostly. A captioning phone will get me by as long as the caller will wait for them to type what was said. Closed caption on TV has made it better as well.

I've been tested 60 lost L. And 30 loss in R. & that was like a few years ago.
Ringing in ears IS getting worse....
But from reading all this it makes a Guy afraid of exploring help. I don't have cash to spend like whats been talked about; and if I do find something I could afford...What if its the wrong ones.

Some of you have had multiple sets before finding what worked. I almost feel like your salesmen of these were Con men.
