So started building cage traps for folks and was just curious. For the door, trigger bars and ring slides do y'all feel 1/4" is enough ( most of the guys are using them for coon )? Been using 5/16"but they were out if stock. And 1/4" is a little cheaper.

Thanks !
God Bless!

I’ve built quite a few, I always use 5/16 for the trigger rod.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I don't know how much smaller your coons are 600-700 miles south of here but 1/4 inch with our coon would not hold up well at all. Even the heavier rods need to be straightened frequently. Coon have nothing better to do than hammer on the cage trap all the while they are caught in them.

Where do you get the building materials?

I use 5/16. And only 14ga Gaw 1/2" x 1" wire.from Klubertanz.

The wire itself makes the strength as much as the frame.

The rod I get from the place I work, have to order the mesh from a farm store.
