Anybody ever wax in a snow storm. Prepping for cats, had dreams of clean traps and maybe picking up a yote but right now is my only chance to wax traps before season and its snowing to beat all (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). Or just say screw it and not worry about wax. I just hate going into anything half way.

Don't do anything you don't want to explain to the paramedics. I do appreciate a good story tho.

Get some full metal jacket —-cold wax dip. No fire. No water dripping into hot wax. Or use Newt’s Formula One or a gasoline speed dip ( but let dry where it’s warm, like a basement). Or do your waxing in a double boiler on an electric hot plate —-inside!!

Never too old to learn

Unless your traps a really bad from early season I wouldn't worry about it. Cats don't care and unless they are rusted up the coyote won't either.

Wish I had more time to trap....

From personal experience, unless you’re gonna be using antifreeze, I wouldn’t do anything, just make sure they are somewhat clean, “ie” pressure wash them at the local car wash. I’ve tried all of the above dips and they are ok, but leave an odor. Waxing is the only protection that I’ve found that is truly odorless the next day, but it will absorb odors from its surroundings. So when I get done waxing my traps and they go back in the barrel I layer some hay or grass clippings in with them. If you’re only going after cats then this is all probably a moot point, but if you’d like to catch a coyote then it pays to be a little bit careful. I have caught coyotes in brand new traps buried under 1” of dirt in a dirt hole set and I think I might have even caught one at a pipe dream but I know with the sparse covering of the pipe dream that those traps do a lot better if they are scent free.

Don't burn the house down.

You might consider trying the Dakota Line dip.
