I love coming across this kind of thing.
Let me know if the pictures don’t show.

Many moons ago I was squirrel hunting behind my parents place. It was the first encounter I’d ever had with a fox. It hurried a rabbit in the hollow base of an old dead tree. Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I’d never believed it. Didn’t realize they cached their food like that.
I keep desperately hoping that one day someone will call me "Sir" without adding "please calm down" or "you're causing a scene."

We don’t have bobcats here. You sure about that? Looks to me that you have at least one there. Some of the tracks look like cat. Bobcat or house cat.

But a dirthole doesn't look like a canine food cache. A flat set would be closer.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

But the real question that gets everyone all fired up is did he mark it? Or will he mark it when he comes back to get it? When he comes back.

I watched a coyote cache a half eaten groundhog at the base of a tree while I was bow hunting. He just kicked some dirt and leaves over it. A few days later I watched him come back for it. He uncovered it, shook it with his teeth for a few seconds, and trotted off. When I went over to look at it, it was covered with orange and black carrion beetles. Must have been too much to stomach.
Nowadays it just don't pay to be a good 'ol boy.
