So me and buddy had a mishap. I was skinning in the garage and he was running themcdown to the chest freezer in my basement. I told him roll from tail to nose. What I didnt say was fur side out. I guess I assumed didn’t think to tell him to turn fur side out. They are rock solid frozen. Did I ruin 20 coon?

The fur Isn't ruined. But I wouldn't wait months to put It up since the nose and face will freezer burn.

Probably not. How long do you plan on leaving them in the freezer? If it is less than a month or so, they should be ok. The fat layer will be a bit dried out but they should still flesh ok.

Hopefully he took care in putting them in there so they are spaced out so that they freeze. If he piled them in there in one big lump, the ones in the center might spoil before they freeze. You might also have an issue of them being frozen together so you have to remove them all at once.

Good Luck.

Suggest you put them in a plastic bag next time as well. Helps prevent freezer burn and easier to separate when you need them.

If you can’t get at them for awhile thaw em out just enough so you can turn them fur side and refreeze, they’ll be fine.

I don't like rolling them up. I used to do it that way and it took forever to freeze and forever again to thaw. I like, fur side out, folding the face inside to keep it from drying out. Close tail end as good as possible then fold tail over belly and freeze skin the long way. 4-5 hours they are stiff enough to rotate around if you need to. I use a bailing twine loop to hang skin in front of fan when thawing. 5-6 hours, even in cool shop and they are ready to scrape.
