Run across some beaver dams an 2 landowners that want beaver out, all 3 dams i found were of mostly cornstalks, i set 1 trap so far for 2 days, above 1 dam a hundred yrds maybe, foothold lured an 2 beaver, pull trap, how many beaver found u find there ? They have bank dens but unknown where, I thinking maybe 4 beaver or 2 big ones that do most dam stuff, that what got is 2 big beaver so far in 2 days an had pull because not able check morning

What were the sexes of the beavers? Both males, both females or one of each? If you caught an adult pair, that could very well be all there is, but you won't know unless you go back and check for current activity. I do this by putting a small hole in the main dam. not sure on sexes, both big, could be a pair, 1 big, the other was very huge, I cant tampar with dams. Where got them, every year or sometimes not for a few years, beaver there , in spring they pass thru, have gotten maybe 15 beaver in over 12 years there. Sometimes no beaver for few years. Water levels, hiway Dept tear dam out an etc.i can rember getting 3-4 beaver there when did sometimes, beaver seem be on increase a little Possibly see more beaver from all rain an flooding earlier, an move up into different smaller streams

You should be able to tell the sex easily when removing the valuable castors.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

With all the rain we had here in northeast Iowa the beavers and rats move up from the rivers and other places due to the high water and flooding. I seen it myself in the past years. In Iowa you can not mess with the dam during the trapping season. It is not that hard to tell the sex on the beavers when you skin them.with the ice on some of the pools and ponds look to see if there is any bubbles under the ice then you will find the dens. Also will know if there is beaver or just rats there .

I didn't realize you couldn't damage the dam in Iowa. Are you sure it isn't just the den or house you cant damage legally? Cannot disturb any den, lodge, or house of any furbearing animal or beaver dam except by written permission from an officer.

This place above dam is wierd, very deep, most places it always over ur head. A foot or 2 out every year, I sit on bank where safe an dig out a little for trap bed for 1.5 long an apple on stick with lure, with stake on bank with long extension chain, 13 rats in short stretch. Hard walking along creek, u wont set any beaver dens there

It only takes a trickle in the dam to find out if there are others. Saves a ton of time and energy.
Common sense catches alot of fur.. Pay homage to all you harvest..

It only takes a trickle in the dam to find out if there are others. Saves a ton of time and energy. Right. If you are doing a nuisance beaver job, I've never had a CO care if I made a hole in the dam to see if I'd caught all the beaver that were there.
Most in this country have things people in other countries only dream about. Yet, they want America to be more like those other countries.
