Recently, a lot of my neighbors have started to use ground asphalt, to top their gravel driveways. When compacted, especially in hot weather, the ground asphalt forms a surface, pretty close to a traditional asphalt road, as the asphalt fuses together somewhat. You may be able to pick up ground asphalt for free or close to free, if you have a way to move it. You need to get it soon after it is ground, because it does start to fuse together again.

Modified limestone has fines and packs well. This might be a regional thing.

Around her we start with 53's with dust and they pack and the dust turns to like concrete then put clean 9's on top.

Having a gravel driveway means fixing it every year. There’s no magic material that won’t get plowed up with the snow. X2 my experience as well.

Having a gravel driveway means fixing it every year. There’s no magic material that won’t get plowed up with the snow. Don't plow to the gravel. I run a blower on a skidsteer and don't add but about ever 10-12 years. Just keep out of the gravel. You can drive on a inch or two of packed snow.

The Question is.... What medium do I top it with to firm it up And keep the rock from getting plowed out this winter.
Crushed re use Concrete???
Get recycled concrete, with crushed asphalt mixed in. Some outfits call in Con-Bit.

Depending on the location, ground asphalt is known as millings. Here they call it 'recycle.'

I like to use something with fines in it so it can be packed. Washed gravel is hard to pack, so I would add some fine on top and it will settle into the gravel and help hold it together. Like was said earlier, try to keep the plow up off the gravel and build a hard pack of ice/snow.

If two bushel baskets of rock, (1100 pounds) fixed your driveway, I wouldn't worry about it. Call it good.
Asphalt millings get reused to make new asphalt. You could buy some but unless your good friends with someone that owns a plant you wont get any for free.
Most of the time clean rock is not used for roads or driveways. Base rock is used. (limestone) Its a mixture of rock and fines. The fines (dust) gets hard. Makes a good driveable surface.

Once re-cycled get packed in it doesn't move, BUT if the ground under moves and you have a hump you are not going to move it once it is set in place. I would use trap rock, I think it is a gray fine lime stone. JMO

I would recommend to pull out your wallet and pave it with hot mix. X2
