Did 2 loads of Laundry today . 12 year old Maytag front load Washing machine made in Germany. First load went fine. No overloading of machine. Then, I did the 2nd load. Water filled up in the machine. Started the wash cycle. About 10 minutes into the wash cycle, there was a LOUD BANG!! in the machine , and then it started bouncing around and making a jack hammer kind of sound. Got to the machine and turned it off. Pulled the front bottom off, to check the drain pump out. All clear.
Pulled all the wet clothes out , to see what was going on. Something happened on the inside of the machine. The rubber door seal is all wrinkled up on the right side. Just some sweat pants in the machine on the 2nd load. Turned the machine back on spin with it empty.
OH, BOY !!
Some weird dry grinding sound coming from both the pump area, and around the stainless steel drum. Would not spin at top speed, which is around 1300 RPM. From the sound of it, I thought it might break apart , if it spun that fast.
Any clue as to what might have broke on it ?

The tub is stabilized by what look like shock absorber. If one of those came loose it would do what you are explaining. I fixed my mother in law's and it worked for another few years. You tube helped me....
Wish I had more time to trap....

When those shock absorber springs break everything gets out of wack and shifts around. Make loud noises and jumps around.
Very inexpensive fix.

Getting a new Speed Queen top loader on Tuesday.
Shock absorbers broke
water pump shot
driveshaft that the drum spins on, is broke.
rubber door gasket that runs around $130 to replace, is busted
Door hinge is rusted and no longer made
That electronic keyboard on the front top of the machine is discontinued.

I would spend the money to fix your old one! Chris

Everyone I know that has bought one of those new-fangled stupid front loaders has lived to regret it... Especially if it has electronic controls.
I refuse to have one of the stupid things in my house. I find a a top loader with a mechanical timer... Something I can work on and repair myself.
If they would just build a machine that is guaranteed to run for X number of years (or better yet XX years) and charge a reasonable price for it, they'd make billions... But engineered obsolescence, selling service contracts and parts, and generally giving customers an ulcer is the name of the game anymore.
