Looks like Trudeau could get voted out today. I'm very unfamiliar with Canadian politics, does anyone from America's hat care to weigh in? Is Scheer a better option than Trudeau?

My vote is in.
They are saying with all the other lefty parties running(greens, ndp, and the separatists) that Trudeau could remain as PM in a coalition govt even if Sheer wins the most votes.Hope not.Sheers popularity took a drop when they found out he has dual Canadian/American citizenship.Apparantly one of his parents is a yank.

Boco, care to explain to a "yank" how an individual could lose the election and still wind up in a position of power in the coalition government? Is it more of a party line election where if all the lefties get more votes than the conservative, they take turns wearing the crown?

In a close election(a minority situation),It is the leader that can gain the confidence of the house that can form the government. The one with the most votes will need to form a coalition with one of the other parties that together they will have a majority of the seats. The other parties have already said none would support a conservative government. So if the conservatives,in this case won more seats than the liberals but could not form a coalition to hold a majority of seats(confidence of the house)then the liberals would be given a chance to form a coalition with another party to hold a majority of the seats.
In either case when this happens the government can fall at any time during their tenure on certain procedural votes with a non confidence motion where the house can bring down the government. Then another election will happen.
Some people like a minority government as it places limits on what a government can get away with.
Harpers first government(our previous conservative government)was a minority government. He governed successfully in the minority situation, and was given a majority in the next election.
Even though other parties have said they would not support a conservative minority gov't,deals can be made, such as promising a plumb cabinate post or two to one of the other parties to gain their support.

Thanks for the explanation, Boco. I tried not to, but I guess I learned something today.

Question to you Canadians. There are rumblings in your west mainly from Alberta, could they and any others provinces actually seperate?

Not likely, like Quebec it is mostly extortion for federal jobs/money/development.Plus the Indians own most of the land and they would want to stay in Canada.Thats what put the kibosh to the Frenchmen separating when they found out that only a little sliver of land along the st Lawrence was all that would separate, lol.
maybe Trumpy will offer to buy Alberta, lol.

Trudeau may have won, but didn't the liberals lose control of parliament or whatever it's called?
