I got a bunch of walnuts to crack. Any other nutty people besides me on here?

I work with a guy that cracks enough of them to heat his entire shop (25x50) with the hulls all winter long.

I'm lucky enough to have a good friend in California who farms 600 acres of them and sends me beautiful 10 pound bags of them cracked by his wife. All perfect halves.

English walnuts I assume? If there's a way to get perfect black walnut halves, I'd love to know the secret.

Rare in my area , Heard they got a blight years back.
I drive a considerable distance to harvest mine.

A lot easier to work with as far as shucking and prepping to crack.
But a tough nut to crack.

I give jelly jars of the meats away every Christmas as a gift.

I get a bunch too crack. Wife kids and I all go and gather them nothing like family time.

Here at the store we sell walnut kernels. I buy them from a man and his wife for $10 a pound. Got them priced on the shelf at $12, that's cheap for nice big clean kernels.

Mother used to make a black walnut cake that was so good.

I like black walnuts in fudge. like them in home made vanilla ice cream too. been shelling pecans here. pecan tree was loaded this year. I think because of all the rain. I picked up some walnuts earlier but didn't bother to even get the hulls off. just boiled hulls and all to dye some traps.

If somebody around here sold black walnuts for 12 bucks a pound I would buy them. Lots easier to earn 12 dollars than crack and pick out a pound of nuts.

Cotton, I got a really sweet nutcracker made by an old order Mennonite boy close to Dayton,VA. I am trying to get another one just like it. But I am still looking. Getting the hulls off is my biggest pain.

Friend of mine used a cement mixer, 2 or 3 railroad tie plates and some spikes to hull his walnuts. He said the nuts would roll up on top, over all the hulls and trash. He had drying racks and let them set in the sun for a while, makes them easier to crack and get out nice clean kernels.

Figure if you're doing a bunch, 10 minutes would pound them around pretty good in the mixer.

corn sheller will hull them easy. just run them through. wait till the hulls are black and dry
