I was looking locally last weekend for metal screen to make trap pan covers. But all they had was aluminum screen. I seen on a video guy cut 2 out to make it stiffer. Would that work or do I need to keep looking around? I have never used them before.

Hey Bobcat

Screen are good -- Try the lawn black mat that you put down in flower beds before mulching etc - pretty good stuff . Can cut prior to and have in bags ready to go

Something to consider expect screens

When i cut my own i bought the petsafe black plastic screen and it worked great. since i did the math and the time it takes to cut them i just started buying them from FNT already cut in a bag for me. Seems like they use the same material or similar anyways. I am interested in trying the gardening mat though. i hve rolls of it sitting around.

I too like the black weed barrier cloth it does a great job and will even let water through the fabric but it only lets water through from one side not both I think the shinier side goes down and water will go through it but if its up the water will not drain through it or vice versa I cant remember off hand. I use wax paper and the weed barrier both and like both. wax paper is super cheap and I just cut the roll into 3 rolls it lasts a long time. I think one roll of weed barrier would last a lifetime if only used for pan covers and the stuff is cheap as well.

are you looking for steel screen to increase the pan surface?

I used to use steel screen but these days I prefer fiberglass. Less toe catches when the paw actually has to hit to pan

Yes I got to talk to Mark Z at nta. He said try the steel ones with grass. I am going to give it a shot. I hate remaking after every rain. Wont hurt to try it.

Not sure what trap your running I run #2 bridger and duke and a few mb 550's. I was afraid with wire screen on the smaller trap that they could trip it while being on the trap jaw or lever. I use toothpick size twigs to guide. Their either on the pan or not. Mark use the jake trap I think it jaw spread is 6 x 6 and I can see having the screen to help out. Mark accused me of using muskrat traps for coyotes. I use the black fiberglass petproof screen

I run mb 550s and Bridger #3s. With a couple quarter size dirt clods or little bitty sticks in the right spots I can get them to step right where I want the majority of the timer don’t get enough rain during trapping season to worry about remakes, so if that’s the reasoning for it then I could see that having an advantage.

Both in true pipe dream sets today. One mb550 w screen and grass and one #2 Duke w screen and grass. To bad my seasons isn't open until December 10th. Also caught a coyote. Mb 550 pipe dream. I have never used pipe dream before yesterday and you won't be able to get me to go back now. No was dirt to carry, I prebaited pipes and it was a pretty good thunderstorm last night. I watched Marks video on coyote U and did what he did and said. Thanks for sharing Mark.

I run mb 650 bridger #2 4 coil dog on and in #3 too. Duke #3 4 coil offset. I picked up some bridger #2 dogless offset 4 coil and Duke #2 square jaw 4 coil offset. Picked up a few mb 550s too . I thought he used it to help keep grass in place when it rain. Could a person use aluminum sceen and staple 2 or 3 together? Come on down to Arkansas September 1 thru February 28th calling them trapping November 11 thru February 28th . Open during spring Turkey season too. No limit. Nice cat I cant wait to get steel in the ground. How long did u make your pipes 9 to 10 inches 1 inch in size?,

I used aluminum screen one layer and it works fine. Pipes are 9 inch mixed sizes. I used what I had laying around. I used the 1/2 inch with wool in it as a scent post type holder. Drill a hole in the pipe for a vent/drain. I prebaited a bunch so all I have to do is grab the flavor I want and pound it in. The hole will keep the bait from blowing out like a cork when you drive it in.

My cat season isn't open yet. Those we're both coyote sets that cats found. We only have a 10 day season for 1 cat because they say we don't have many. Lol

Our season opens in a couple weeks, do you mind if I ask what you were using for bait/lure/sets? We have a sixty day season with no limit on cats and there seems to be quite a few around. I get quite a few cat pics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks4_4j6fEa0

I catch more cats on widow Maker by mark June which is a bobcat meat bait. Lemons coyote nature call at scent posts and second best bait is apple road horse meat. Mind you these are coyote sets that catch cats. When I have my short 10 day season I use June's windwalker with fresh beaver for bait. I have having to release them but I guess according to DNR we don't have many cats.

I will post a picture of a set that has been rained on for 2 days when I check tomorrow. I didn't remake any today, the couple I looked at close looked fine. I have 3 sets at each location.

O’Gorman and No BS both sell the heavy duty black screen, that’s where I get mine. I believe it’s something like $40-50 bucks for 5 dozen pre cut from Kendal.
