I got a nice tip from one of my customers. I bottle of good Irish whiskey and 100 bucks. So after having had a sip or two of said beverage, I developed some Dutch courage and got on the confuser, looked up Chronographs and ordered one from Optic Planet. I got the Prochrono DLX from Competition electronics as it has bluetooth and has an app for my phone so I don't have to squint at the thing in order to get to see the numbers on it. I wonder how long it takes for me to shoot the thing. Anyway, as I am about to have my own shooting range behind where the house is going to be it seemed the right thing to do. Anyone here use that model and if so, did I buy the wrong thing ?? I know , someone is going to start ... ya should have gotten the Lab radar. And I would have but the tip was either some money or a bottle of whiskey short, so for now I'll have to stick with this thing. It will probably be a couple of weeks or three before I get to try it out as the missus wants me to do some stuff like move the boats and whatnot.

There are only 2 kinds of chronos. The ones you have shot and the ones you will eventually shoot. LOL Just double check everything is lined up properly before you shoot and you should be fine. After getting mine i have really learned alot about things i never thought about before. If you reload i would say while its not absolutely necessary but its highly recommended or you are just guessing what you think your loads are doing.

lab radar can save money in the long run since you don't shoot them , they are sweet , I know 2 people with them that will let me shoot some rounds next to them and get a number.
I have been looking at a magneto speed , not all the data of a lab radar but a lot less likely to get shot then a traditional as it straps to the end of the gun

I have looked at the magneto speed. The thing that I was hesitant about it that ya have to strap it to the end of the barrel. That will affect the barrel harmonics so the group will probably vary and so will the POI depending wether it is strapped on or not. So one would have to shoot for velocities and then take it off and shoot for groups. That made me decide against it

if you have to play with others at a range not needing a cease fire to go set up your equipment down range chronos that stay with you at the bench make a lot of sense
if you have all the time in the world and your own personal range not a big deal
however shooting over a chrono and hitting a target can lead to chrono strike for some.

I have my own range on my back porch. I have a shooting bench and i put the rifle in the shooting position on the sandbags/bipod aimed at the target then i move the chrono around until it is lined up. So far I have not had a problem. I also have tape wrapped around the metal guides that hold up the diffuser and make sure the crosshairs are even with that tape. I also dont allow anyone else to shoot through my chrono.

Scuba and Cattrax hit it on the head for me. Mounting something on the end of the barrel makes no sense for what I do. When testing loads, I want every shot to be for group and to be measured. I've had a Prochrono for well over 10 years and have never shot it. Mine doesn't have the remote readout and that would be handy at times, but I make do.
