Ghost, that pan looks perfect.
I don't take my bevel all the way to the corner of the 90. I leave a very small section right at the 90, flat. That gives the tab that is welded onto the jaw, something to consistently grab ahold of.
Here's a tip. As you are filing, constantly check your work by painting it with a black Sharpie. That way you can gauge how much, and where you still need to file to keep everything flat and square.
Gary, all mine have brass washers already on the pan bolts. He must have started adding them since you bought yours.
I still have all my 550's, and Bridger full mod dogless', but am really looking forward to getting these in the ground.

What I did was took a file and filed the pan engagement point or contact area (where the night latch spot is) and file a slight ramp or angle upward towards the top of the pan. A few strokes and check it. Repeat. It is a little time consuming but after a few or 3 you will know about how many strokes according to your amount of pressure you put on the file before you need to check it. IF you over do one and it's to light just take and file it back towards a flat position, just do 1 lighter stroke and check it because it takes very little to get it back. The biggest advice I can give you is be patient and dont get too aggressive with the file right off the start. I did and the metal comes off fast ,luckily I was able to get it back where i wanted it. . Here is a picture sorry not the best on a phone. And the 2 files I used. I use the half round mostly. It's about 3/4 - 7/8 wide I also checked the poundage and it broke right at 3# on the Sullivan tester. I also use them 2# & 3# dumbbells you see "walkers" using. I put the tester right on the o of KO. Mho I bet you that pan dog might stay set a few times but the tension on those springs will bend or smear that lil dog off and your stuck with a trap that can't be set... My first Bridger dogless #3s had to be filed back near a 1/4 inch then I had to remake nightlatch notches. But I left way more meat. Probably half the thickness of the steel Yep I over did this one but that's the learning curve.

Dusty, don't sweat it. When I ordered these 2 dozen, I ordered 3 extra pans, and a set of jaws...just in case I screwed something up. Now I'm going to use them to try a couple different mods that I think will be better, yet.
Call Kara, at NO BS, and have her send you a couple spares. They are cheap, and easy to replace. You can just start over. Without a learning curve, we wouldn't learn.

Add a #10 brass or stainless washer under the lock nut helps a bunch.

I was shown a different way to adjust the pan tension. I tried the bow string wax but it didn’t seem to help much. I was told to loosen the 7/16 nut holding pan to the frame and move the pan about an 1/8” towards the loose jaw then place a piece of wooden dowel rod under the part of the pan where it narrows and bend down to level it. I’ve been able to get it between 2.5 and 4 lbs on my first attempt and move them all to 3ish lbs with further adjustments. I like to stay away from a file if I can help it.

That sounds like a great fix. Is there any way you could share a pic or two?
If posting is a pain for you, as it is for me, I'd be happy to give you my contact info, and you could send me some pics.
I like the sounds of it...and I THINK I understand what you are describing. Thanks for sharing the idea.
Would that be like MTP's take on bending the dog on 550's to get lighter tension?

I run 10 dozen Jrs for Fox coyotes and bobcat. When 4 coiled the tension is a bit high for my liking since slot of my catch is red fox. I remove 1 coil and run them 3 coiled . Still plenty fast but but tension is right at about 2.5 pounds when waxed. Everyone is the same. I tried playing with the pan notch and filing angles. Gave up after screwed up a few. Removing a coil was easier and it works.

Except for a bit of bowstring wax on the point of contact, I've haven't had to do anything to these amazing traps. Work every time. I feel you are the kind of guy that would complain about being hung with a new rope.

Wish I could convince myself to go out and get these traps. Like that they're 'tank proof'; but, heavy (and inconsistent) pan tensions have been an issue since they hit the market. Doesn't seem that a solution to the issue has been incorporated into the design by the maker yet. Would love to hand over my $$$ if pan tension can be consistently demonstrated and reviewed to be between 2 1/4 - 3 1/4 lbs as supplied from the manufacture.

A 3# dumbbell for $4-$5 from Walmart works great for a tester too!
