I am not nearly as old as W17, but like him, I find my cutoff edging "up" each year!
Those of us who have been at it for a while have little left to prove by going out in dangerously cool temperatures.
We have done it! "Many years ago" was the perfect time to do stupid stuff!
Like W17 says, mechanical stuff breaks down far more easily when it is super chilly.
Pete I'd figure it was much colder back when White17 was developing the White17 wolverine set and hunting Mammoth. Here's the problem though............. thermometers had not yet been invented................!

Actually, W17 was working on separating the mercury from the rock he discovered it in. It took a LONG time for Pete to show up, and pulverize that rock, allowing Ken to then smelt it down, find a useful way to measure temperature, invent the proper glass to allow it to rise and fall, and prevent Ol' Blister from breaking it. Quite an accomplishment, actually, but pales in comparison to his invention of the wheel. Alas, that is another story......

Yep. Like boat steering cables, and outboards in general. Sub-zero temps, saltwater, and open skiffs are generally a bad combo. I quit when the creek frezzes (salt water tide creek that emptys into the bay) over and the boat wont break through it. Been cought out fish'n when the nets were froze to the bottom of the boat.Got'm back over tho. Thats was it for that day

X2 However, it is the constant Chinooks and warm weather that is making life dangerous around here these days.
