I have an upcoming desert sheep hunt. I want a euro mount so I am interested in selling my cape. I know how to get it off of the animal, and will have a taxidermist skin out the head. From there would you freeze it fresh or have a taxidermist flesh and salt the hide? Also any place you would recommend selling it besides taxidermy.net
Pat, as usual, you are right....

For your best dollar on such a cape, your best letting the Taxidermist prep the whole cape right down to salting it.
It will save you lots of anguish selling it, if you advertise it as prepped by a Taxidermist instead of your self.
Capes such as this go for premium dollars if done right. Make sure you get measurements before peeling it of the carcass as well, the taxi can tell you which are most important, as this is what are going to be the second questions after the prep one.
There is a forum on the Taxi site for selling beside the main one, you can list as have for sale or want to move. Or you can try any one of the gun shows, or advertise in most taxidermy catalogs or mags for a limited fee, try to move it where the need is not just where interest is.
If it were me I'd flesh it out salt it, then set it to drain, shake off the next day re-salt it til dry, while folding it for shipment and take pic's for a record of doing it, but I'm not worrying about not knowing how to do it either. I'd never freeze it cause you risk losing it if the power goes out or you have to keep it for a long time, salting it will help it last way longer and it's safer to store it as well.
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

Where in Nevada are you?You are making a big mistake if you sell just the cape VS the whole, lifesize skin.

Call me dumb but what good is the hide unless someone has horns There are replica horns galore out there, plus sometimes the hunter may goof up their own capes/skins and need a replacement.

Call me dumb but what good is the hide unless someone has horns Often they do.I have seen people that had a Grand Slam of 4 sheep, done as shoulder mounts that are very old, have all of them redone as lifesize mounts-all at one time. Some could not afford it when they were younger but later in life, could. Some who did European mounts may later want a lifesize when they can afford it. When Cabelas and others were filling stores with mounts, they bought up trophy horns or used reproductions of huge trophy racks and needed plenty of quality, lifesize hides. Sheep hides don't grow on trees, especially desert. It takes many years to draw a tag and how many people wouldn't mount theirs?
