Any of you know much about horses? Had a mare about 18 laying out in the pasture about sunset last night. No Marks on here and she could not get up. After about 15 minutes she was able to get up but it looked like her back legs were paralyzed or did not work right for a while? I though she had a broke leg because one was twisted up under her. After she eventually made it up I lead her to some good grass and she started eating like nothing was wrong but then her muscles started spasming. It was weird - all along her back and shoulders and sides the muscles under her skin were flexing or jumping. After about 10 more minutes she was shaking all over and her left eye was rolling back in her head. I thought she was going to fall over but she eventually got interested in the grass again and it wore off. Do horses have seizures? Seemed okay this morning. She did this 3 weeks ago too.

Hmm, I’m no help but I’m interested to hear a diagnoses. Knee jerk thought is noxious weed of some type. Been on this pasture for a while? Good luck

It might be ear ticks deep down in her ear or ears. Mix some 10% permethrin with mineral oil and put it in each ear with a syringe.
That being said, it could be a number of things at her age. I have seen old horses and dogs that were treated for diabetes with no signs until they were in later years.
Sit on your horse on top of a ridge, look out across the country and tell me there is no God.

Rod- The first episode she had was also with large knots all over her. The vet gave her benadryl and a steriod and she snapped out of it after about 20 minutes. He thought she had an allergic reaction to a plant she at in the pasture.

If I had to guess a neurologic disorder of some causing issue. Cancer, brain tumor and or a disease that caused a bacteria and infection. If you do find out please update your thread. I would like to know what the cause it. Thanks
