Most of my beaver trapping experience has been trapping for fur. Last summer I started doing a little ADC. Summer ADC for beaver has turned out to be more of a challenge than I first anticipated. Have pestered my good. trapperman.com buddy Jtrapper and he has been lot of help by offering some great advice. Jackie is a patient guy that knows a ton about trapping but is not a chest beater like so many today.
I am. getting the hang of things but trapping in the summer is far different than hitting the colonies in the fall or winter. It is different for a lot of reasons.
So I decided to up my education so I studied what was available on the market. Decided to go with "Summertime Beaver Control" by Charles L. Dobbins and Paul J. Dobbins.
Well I was not disappointed. You don't know what you don't know. I was much dumber on summer beaver than I knew!
Lots of information on some great sets for summer beaver work. Lots of great information on how beaver act according to certain situations and stimuli provided by the trapper, and how to interpret what you are seeing out on the line. Very valuable DVD for anyone doing some summer beaver trapping. Really good information. Really good.

Thanks for the kind words, you won't go wrong with that video, without a doubt the best one ive seen on summer beaver.
Took 3 out of a pond a few weeks ago and still haven't seen a single bit of sign to tell me they were even in there, lol.
Not my circus, not my clowns.

Mac, you were NOT dumb, you were ignorant, which is fixed thru education.
NOW, tween the vid you mentioned and Pauls "Beaver Sites and Sets", I can attest that they educated MY IGNORANCE, and allowed me a successful ADC beaver removal career!
BTW, I am still ignorant of many things, but not too proud to ask for education, when the time comes.
Sounds like you are on the road to success!

The information on how to interpret what is going on at a summer beaver colony really made me sit up and take notice. The way they taught to construct a proper dam break set was excellent too. Lots of great information. I have Paul's other DVD that I watched years ago. Guess I better dig it out and go over that again! So much to learn and so little time to learn it.

I had a really great time making the Summertime Beaver Control video with dad. He had finished his chemo and was weak from that and from only having one lung. He was kind of depressed not being able to do much. I suggested that he and mom come down for a visit, and he could ride along with me beaver'n. That's what they did. After the second day of riding with me, he decided to try and do a video on summertime beaver'n. He saw the way I made the dam break set and figured that would be a main feature of the video. I kind of thought maybe it was his idea from the start to come down and make a video, since he brought his video recorder with him while visiting. He never mentioned that he had this planned out, and I'm still not sure he did.
He didn't have much breath, so we brought a bucket with us for him to sit on once we got the camera set up. Since he was narrating it, he had to catch his breath before filming each time. I think the project perked him up and helped in his recovery.

Thanks for sharing that Paul. Your method of a dam break set has changed how I go about it. For the better I must add. LOL mac
