Only 7872 moose hunters in Unit 13 in 2016. I won't even go into the number of caribou hunters. So your saying I’ll probably run into other hunters? What are my chances of getting one. Moose will taste better than the hunters.

Another question, do you have to worry about bears, what’s the best way to avoid or keep out of camp.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Could be worse. I could be on the Kenai. .
I'm with Dirt concerning the Kenai Peninsula. Way too many people !!
I concur. Too many people on the little ground that isn’t locked up by liberal feds. Geographically the Kenai Peninsula is nice, if you could get to the other 80% of it without getting strip-searched by an overzealous Fed. Re: OP: Like others said, fly in to get past the crowds. Be prepared for bears, keep a clean camp and be vigilant. Use any heavy 30 caliber like White said, with good bullets, and make sure you can shoot it well. You don’t have to be a long-range sniper, but you want to be quick and accurate in your comfort range. Pack extra food and tarps. Don’t shoot a moose in the water. Keep us posted.

Thanks guys. Correct me if I'm wrong but on the AK website 13d is nonresident only area and says only 25 tags were awarded. That doesn't quite seem right. I think k I'll just use my 30 06. Is it leagal to build campfires or is that a no.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I think k I'll just use my 30 06. That will serve you well. I usually carried a .300 Win Mag if I was hunting mixed game. I had a couple of .458s and a .375 if I was chasing strictly big stuff.

30-06 has dropped a lot of moose. Can’t do a whole lot better.

Thanks for all your help guys. Just a little update, I’ve been hitting the gym every other day, lost 20 lbs and feel a lot better. Spent way more than I expected on gear, which I’m still not sure what I really need. Only 5 weeks away and don’t even know if I’m prepared for what’s coming. Not sure what my chances are of getting one but we’re giving it everything we got. The experience will be worth it. Any more tip will be appreciated.

How do you plan to access your hunting area?

Don't shoot a moose very far from your air pickup.
Learn how to call. Learn the cow call and bull grunt, at least.

Hunted the Alaskan Peninsula with Brent Jones of AAA Outfitters. Lots of bear and salmon. Very enjoyable. The scale of the area confused my senses at first. Glassing mountainsides at first was eye opening as what I was looking for was much smaller than I expected having never been in an area like that. Pursuit of an animal may take a day to get to where you saw it initially.

Thanks Tracer, this is all the info I was given from my friend that lives up there. There will be two of us, and we did NOT skimp on anything. Looking forward to this trip, just hope we’re in good enough shape for it.
