I usually run 12 ga. High Tensile wire on my fencelines, and I use a 16 joule fencer...but on one side of my Farm I am putting up a new pasture fence with 14 ga electric wire and am contemplating buying a Solar fencer for that line.

Does anyone here run with Solar and if so which fencer brand has been good or Bad for you?

I noticed the warranty on most states only 1 year.

I've been studying them for awhile now and the parmak seems to get good reviews.

I run Stafix 3x and 1x, the 1x is set up with a trickle charger on a solar panel hooked up to a 12 Volt marine battery and is outside sitting along the fence line. The 1x has been on the same battery since 2014. I run 14ga wire around the farm pastures, and use poly wire for dividing up pastures for intensive grazing. Had Parmarks with solar chargers but switched over to Stafix about 2000. Thing I like about the Stafix is they can be run off house current or a battery and they haven't given me the problems i had with the Parmarks. I've had the 3x now for 19 years and it only went down once, in 2014 when the mother board gave up. Had it back in a week and been on ever since.

Stafix and Speedrite are the same company - one red, one green - they are top of the line on chargers be it solar or plugged in. Parmacks are very good as well and have excellent warranty service - old company still standing behind their products but not as many bells and whistles on the units.

That said- I went cheaper and found a box store model at orscheln/tractor supply store and it has serviced me well for 3 years. I had a water gap in the woods on the line and nothing will keep the gap in place so I run a single hot polywire and run the wire all the way to neighbors pasture to put the solar charger in for some sun. Works well and I just have to check the polywire after big rains. Main thing I have found around here is to check the fence often and carry one of those electric fence testers that gives a joule rating of flow through the wire to know if you have an issue.

I use several of the Zereba chargers that I purchased from Tractor Supply years ago. They have held up well for me.

Gallagher and Patriots, 12v Patriots are the last three I bought. Wish I had bought 12v right from the start. I had a patriot non solar and had good luck with it for maybe ten years, so expect similar luck with their solar's. I am running four 6v and two 12v on four fences over a thousand foot and several short pieces. Going to switch out one of the sixes for the extra 12 I just bought. Love the 12's, lots of voltage. Also bought several of those fence indicator lights, they hang on the fence and don't blink unless voltage gets low I set mine for 2500v. I think they are Patriots also, lights blinking I check fence, otherwise keep on trucking.
Wire I like the regular 14ga, soft and forgiving. Have used 17 in regular and high tensile, hate both but hate high tensile more. High tensile won't break, if an animal gets tangled up in it you got problems sometimes real bad problems. Junked all the 17 I had for that reason.

Get a fencer with a remote. Them things are awesome- you just clip on the fence and shut your fencer off. Our family has 2 fencers like that and they rock. We use the kind of fencer you plug in an outlet.
