Is this oyster? Heck yes or heck no? It was growing on a deadfall cottonwood I didn't have a camera with me so I took pictures when I got home.

Yes, safe when the ridges on the underside go on down the stem. Oyster for sure and good eating. Slice, put in flour and fry in butter!

I always hate to ID via Internet but to me, personally it looks like oysters. Just strictly from the pictures. I found these yesterday on the backside of my property. These are oysters. I deep fried some and put the other half in a cream of mushroom soup with seared honker breast (HONKER not something else). Favorite mushroom of mine. But again, to me it looks like oyster but always be cautious.

One of my favorites! Enjoy.

Heck yes! Is there a distinct black licorice smell to them when held up to your nose? Good eating mushroom.

Thank you for the replies, it does smell like black licorice. I will fry some up with dinner tonight.
