i understand completely, only ones i kill are where they souldn't be or have done something they shouldn't have.new flagstone quarries attract them for some reason-i imagine the smell of fresh dirt, and they could eat a skidsteer in no time if left.funniest thing i ever saw was one that ate all the walls out of a small camp.they love that partical board.walking by you could see all the studs, the sink, and even the cots.was like someone went through and took all the sheeting on the outside off.worst i've saw is a quarry 8 miles back in that had damage to both my skid steers 3 days in a row requiring over an hour of time to run to town to have new hoses made before we could work.they like hydraulic oil i guess too cause thats what they always seem to get.

All the rodents like the glue in the older plywood.Porkys do a lot of destruction because of their size.Tin sheathing prevents that. The newer plywood doesn't get chewed like the older stuff. If you make a marten box out of the older plywood, some would be completely devoured by squirrels in a season or two. They must use a different glue nowadays cause I don't see it anymore with the new plywood boxes.

Porcupines are valuable prey animals here for wolverine and coyote both, but especially so for wolverine. Other things play into it somewhat but generally speaking when the porcupine population is up, the wolverine population is as well. In my opinion around homes and farm animals they need heavy control and ones causing damage have to be dealt with, but out in the back country I think they should be protected, perhaps with seasons and bag limits but maybe even closed completely. They are poor table fare, but if you don't have any other meat then they seem a whole lot more palatable. When freshly killed, coyote and wolverine love them, but when cold and frozen they are useless as bait. So I will keep them thinned out around home, but out on the trap line I am glad to see them and would not shoot one unless I needed something to eat. But I haven't been that hungry for quite a long time now. I think they really are more valuable here as a prey species than most people realize.

Great for marten nesting. Beaver are beneficial on the landscape like that also by flooding standing timber, providing standing dead timber that are prime nesting sites for all kinds of birds and animals as well, long after the beaver have moved on.

Have a standing order from all trapline property owners to put them down. They are (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) on calves.

Some don't think they have any purpose in the bush, but they do.Not saying they should be protected,if there is an overpopulation it wont hurt a thing to thin them out some.Likely will benefit the health of the pop overall. A pair of leather gloves with a wide strip of porky tail velcro'd to the back might come in handy in a bar fight. Use a strip on each sleeve, you only wipe your nose with it once.

I talked to a WDNR forester. He said for unknown reasons, the porcupine population is noticeably higher this year.
