If I'm using rhododendron limbs on a stair case should I remove the bark and let dry or dry and then remove the bark? I do not want a weathered look but more of a gloss.

it will be easier to remove bark after it dries
for gloss, you will need a finish added to it

I don't know about rhododendron but I find it easier to remove the bark when it's still green. This also cuts down on sanding.

I plan on adding shellac and urethane. Just.dont know best time to debark.
