@Miley--We just got the Techsew 402 for heavier leather. My wife loves it. She can sew a pair of mittens in under 10 minutes with it. All the bells and whistles that come with the Techsew are worth it.

thanks, will post averages tomorrow evening late. Momma is out of town, so it will be me, my 4-1/2 year old daughter (who loves all things trapping bc I do it), and my 2-1/2 year old son. I told them I'd treat them to dinner if they behave. Hope Gary has some patience.
Miley, new Bonis to me. Buying a refurb from Chuck Bonis himself. Chuck has been very helpful, machine comes with 1 year warranty, and he has all the needles and parts. He asked me what I was sewing and recommended the exact machine and then explained why. I've stowed away my trapping income this year and some from last year, going to splurge on the machine. I'll be in for just over 2K with the machine, and a new table with a new servo motor. And yes I'll still hand sew some, it adds value and authenticity, and I enjoy it. But, I think I can pay my trapping fund back in short order from proceeds generated from the machine. Mittens and hats sell, and I hope I can turn them out much faster. And, I've seen your raccoon blankets, you will create a market for yourself, it's good work. I hope to get the machine and have it setup in a few weeks. I'll report back to you.
Wissmiss, thank for kind words. As I was cleaning and blowing out those cat pelts last night I was dreaming about having western grade cats around here, and how much more money all that work would bring . . . but honestly I enjoy doing it, and I like seeing the fruits of my labor. I'm happy to have an outlet to sell them.
Happy Trapping . . .

You won't regret getting that machine, in fact you might learning how to use it, once you find out how fast and nice you can put fur together. You will be sewing all manner of things, I'm now working on learning coat work, and already have clients lined up when I'm ready. That machine will pay for it's self just a quickly as you want to work at it !!
I used to sew fur by hand, took a lot of time, was a satisfying labor of love, however mass producing to sell at booths or demos and such is where the money is at, and a fur machine gives those hats a real professional look.
Blankets and couch throws are a new novelty as well, very easy to do and one can make all manner of patterns and match's very easily !
No I doubt any one would regret a fur machine if they are serious about a return on their harvest for better than pelt price !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

Good thread. Nice fur put-up. I think it's great that you all are investing in the future of trapping and preserving our heritage by creating and crafting fur. Very cool.

Good luck, unless something has changed groney never had much of a cat market. That's what I've heard too. GFW is advertising a particular need for coyotes, coon, muskrat, beaver, & otter. I have 3 cats and 9 red fox but I'm torn if i should send them to FHA instead of Groney. Unfortunately the FHA pick up is two days before Groney's truck so I won't be able to know what Groney would give for them all.
