I have taken all of the above mentioned in off set jaw traps. 3/16 and 1/4 inch offset. Well maybe not just one toe each time but one to several toes.

I only use offset jaw on coyote bobcat and fox and always get full paw catches. Never lost a critter. And I use 2 dukes a lot which have notoriously big gaps. I believe OS jaw traps have stronger lock up as well.

I never used them before , I look at that 3/16 inch gap and at a fox toe and just don't see how it could hold him. I have caught fox now & then with one toe , even with proper pan tension. Interesting hearing from other trappers on this. Thx

We have to use offset traps , I have caught one cat by one toe , caught a coyote by the bottom of the pad the rest of the catches have been high on the pad or leg. Some I have 5/16 gap I don't see any issues, the only time I pay attention to pan tension is when I'am trying for lions and I want to keep skunks etc. out

I'd never use them here because we h ave way many more Fox than coyotes. That, and the fact most traps today have high levers, I don't see the need for them.

Coyote by one toe in a K9 extreme. Wish I could see just how that happened. They hold fox just fine as well

The bottom line Is this If your not legaly bound to use them I see no reason to set a offset jawed trap.

Its always interesting the discussions which occur here and my opinion is just my own of course. I hold nothing against anyone setting any legal trap
any way they wish. That being said my trap setups use large off set jaws in line shock spring and three swivels. This way I can also release the animals I need
to release with a 90% complete no injury.

Released a nice Bobcat in November from a coyote trap. He was not inured whatsoever ever sat around a bit then
trotted off. Have released many porcupines also and the feral cat. I also like to be able to show people that I can snap a #2 right onto my bare hand and show them my intent is to hold the animal. I have had many surprised folks.

Just my way and I really can not say I ever lost an animal due to offsets.I catch fox also.

JMO and tight chains to all!
