Sugar Cane Knife we don't use Machete's down here. Thinner blade, less effort to sharpen, and easier to swing

That's awesome Weez congrats! What's all there I see bobcat, beaver, coyote, red fox, ... what else is there? coon, skunk, weasel, possum, grey fox ... ? Unfortunately we don’t have many grays around where I live, i’ve Never caught one. I’ve also never caught a weasel, and try to avoid skunks. I usually put up lots of possum as well but not this year, I’ve Had 40 possum at NAFA for over a year. I worked hard at....I feel blessed to be able to enjoy my passion.
God put me at the top of the food chain....I just put a trap on the other end!

Clint its a lot of work and time consuming running every thing by 2 different boats. A lot of trap movement and water level changes. Usually when you find a good spot you will catch a nutria for 3 or 4 days then you have to move traps. The best trap location this year I pulled 15 rats off of the same two traps. I run two traps per pole. One with a chain about 3 foot long and one right at the pole. Nutria like structure like white perch. if you have a small tree or overhanging grass on the trail that's the best place to set for my area. I don't have to worry about competition because my land owner does life time trapping leases so I don't have to worry about trap theft. There isn't anybody 10 miles from me that still runs traps. Its mostly just ride and shoot type population control. The only competition I have is eagle/hawks and the alligators if they are out due to the weather. The only issue I have is I can't catch a muskrat to save my life. On my property the muskrats are doing the most damage. 150 Acre section there was between 25-30 muskrat huts and they are getting worse every year. I don't know if the marsh here is like what it is up north because the marsh actually rises and falls with the water level. So under the marsh there might be 6 inches of water or there might be 4 foot of water. Ive seen holes in the middle of the float that had more than 20 foot of water and the opening was only 5'X5'. So basically its like under ice trapping but with a floating prarie that you cant see the runs. You have to find air holes with a pole or step off in them, lol.

Jeez all that thin fur.... Any of you fellas down there ever consider trapping in the winter instead of summer? Season issue?
I'm kidding of course, great job all of you. Very impressive trappers.
