That was awesome! Thanks for sharing that clip. So, how long do they run and do you just filet them and freeze then??
Thanks. They start running in February from the Bering Sea up the Yukon, and peak right about after breakup in May, and early June. I pass most of them out around the village, Keep one every now and then, some are baked, dried, fried or boiled, or made into Agutuk( Eskimo ice cream )
Thank you Jeff for another glimpse into your day have the ling / burbot started running yet ? I keep hearing rumors that they are down here but I've not gotten the chance to get out to try for them yet. Stay Safe out there and enjoy your day ! Allan

Thanks Allen Yes the Burbot (Lush Fish here) have been pretty regular all winter. I don't eat them in the summer, they are no good. But right now they are first choice of winter fish for folks around here, including me. The big liver inside is always eaten with the fish, makes a good spread on crackers or bread. The fish is mostly boiled, or made into chowder.

I caught one today.
What are those other fish you have in the sled?
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

Nice to see how its done. Great Video and tune. We call them Burbot...CUSK around here...good eats ! Never fished with a net before....it kinda like trapping...set it forget it...and get more chores done. Well...I guess your not Fishing....cuz my wife says “ fishing is one jerk waiting for another jerk “.
It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

Outstanding and thanks for sharing. What's the best day's catch you've had doing that?
As we get closer to spring the catch goes up. By late April, I am almost filling the sled some days. I drop them off at the gas station and village folks come and get them.
How do you get the net from one hole to the other under the ice?
I tie a rope on the far end and pull it back under the ice, like you see in the video. We cant lose that end or were done for the year, The ice is too thick now to reset the net. I will fish from November until around May 10 right before breakup.

The other fish in the picture are more sheefish.
And getting some needed bonus points from the neighborhood to boot! but i'm sure you all help one another and it all works out!
