I brought in wood from the shed for the first time last weekend. Winter has been very mild so I was still cutting it out of the pile. What I take out I have to replace in the spring so I cut as long as I can. Winter has now arrived -2 this morning and blizzard conditions forecast for the weekend. Well I knew it wouldn't last all year.

Wood supply is ok, but have plenty to make yet. Always been a procrastinator when it comes to Wood for some reason. this year I hope to get ahead so I'm not burning anything under a year seasoned. Oak that's not completely dry( 2+ years) creates a lot of creasote in my wood stove.
Osky what size fisher do you have? I have a mamma bear and it heats house about perfect.

I'm running low but my son's cache is really healthy and well stacked I might add, since he used my log splitter- you know how this story ends lol.

I'm already into next years supply, it's been cold and snowy for a long time this winter
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I am off the grid so when gone for a few days especially at sub zero temps the place is cold thru and thru. On arriving I load the stove and fire up my generating plant for power to run a fan near the stove. 4-6 hours and the place is up to temp. Once warm a 2’ by 10 inch log will burn all night with the stove dampered right and keep temp just fine. This is to 10 below or so, lower than that I may have to let it burn hotter and add a log later. I only run the fan to circulate heat until the place is warm then it’s done, generator off. Osky

I built my cabin in 2009. 24'x36' with a full length 6' porch overlooking the creek. One BR, one B, combination LR and K. Built it that way so none of my 3 daughters and their families could move in with me! Hardy Board siding, house wrap, 6" studs, 1" of closed cell foam sprayed inside to seal it up, 6" fiberglass insulation, 2 layers of fiberglass insulation in the ceiling , tongue an groove pine walls and vaulted ceilings inside. I have a Ashley circulator heater in the end of the living room. My wood shed holds 6 cords and I have never used over two cords any winter since the cabin was built. Two 16" sticks of wood in the heater at 10PM with the thermostat closed down. It got down to 18 last night with about 10mph winds. 73 degrees in here this morning at 6 am. Oh, we sleep with our bedroom window cracked about 3" every night and a living room window about 2" so the heater will draw. I'm very happy with that!

Zim your right about havin half your wood left February 1st,and what Supercub said about you never havin enough wood is fact.i have enough wood in to last until may and if we have a late spring again I have more in a pile. we are blessed with abundant fire wood source in these parts,good hardwood the beach tree die off is tremendous and trees are falling all though our forest. makes for some great firewood if you get it before it starts to punky. they are selling a armful of wood to the tourist here for $5to$8 in the summer a lot hustling goin on. keep your fire goin,and take care.
