My favorite one is the night the bear ate Goombaw. I still have the same reaction as when I first read it when I was a kid... I laugh so hard, I cry and can't catch my breath. I read his stories to my kids and even my wife enjoys them. Which one is your favorite?

My favorite was one where he made "whomper" the heavy duty slingshot, and tossed it to the guy at the outdoors contest. Rancid was only one able to pull it back. The story of his first deer was good too (on his bike). Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I remember... couldn't wait for the next issue of Outdoor Life and going right to the last page to read Patrick McManus! I do have most of his books, it's been a while, I'll have to get them out. He-hee!
Let's go Brandon!

Too many great ones for me to pick a favorite. Anything involving the sister, "Patricia the Troll" was good for some belly laughs but it was hard to read anything he wrote without at least chuckling. The man was a comedic genius.
I have two sets of his entire library, one for home and another at camp.
Eh...wot?

I read his stories in Field & Stream and looked forward to every issue. He and Gene Hill are my favorite outdoor writers.
We bought every one of the books - paperbacks and read them aloud on long road trips to the wilderness. We had no television. We also read them aloud at home on cold winter evenings. Wife and son and I would take turns reading trying to add suitable voices. We laughed so hard it hurt.
My favorite is the story where for an entire summer he and Eddy Muldoon saved their urine in canning jars. They stored the jars in the hot attic of a garage. I believe they jars fell on Eddy’s father.
It is time to read them again. Son is now 40 years old and lives across the country.
