I get the 20 # boxes of King Crab from Norton Sound Seafoods in Nome for $300. I think we get a village brother in law deal from them, because they list it on their website for much more.

If you want the absolutely best tasting shrimp (no, not spots) call around southeast Alaska and try to find a commercial shrimp fisherman who markets his "coon-stripe" shrimp. They are a little smaller than spots and there isn't really a commercial market for them. But, they are the best flavoured shrimp by a long shot. Whatever you do though, don't over boil or grill your shrimp and make them chewy.

Side stripes are even better than coons, but are "vegitarian", if you will, and are only taken in a trawl. Sweetest, by far, and can almost approach the spots in size, but not by average.
I was present and hauling a sport trawl set many years ago where we could not load the bag, too heavy, so opened the end.
Next drag, we drug the edge of the jag and boarded around 800#.

Agreed that although Spots are really good, Coon Stripe are by far the best of the Alaskan shrimp.
For crab Dungeness rules for most recipes. Tanner for dips. King crab I will only eat right from the cooker. Once cooled I find it to not taste so good. Fish snobs anyways....

A fond memory fro my school days...... Down the coast a bit was a place called Botchie's Crab Stand. ( I think that was short for Botulism.) Every once in a while I could afford some Dungeness crab meat. Mixed with some mayo and horseradish..........piled onto sourdough bread with black pepper and mozzarella cheese...................grilled until brown...........eaten with a dill pickle and beverage of choice..................Dang that was good !!!!!!!!!!!!
