I have used the Wolf Fangs but never tried Pogo's. Wolf Fangs stay in the ground for sure. I made mine with 18" cable and I don't think they needed to be that long. Just get a good driver for them.

I have been using pogos for years. Never have had any problems. I like being able to set them without having to pound them into the ground, pilot hole and just push them in and then set them.

Help yourself.

Born, any trouble w the washers sticking to the driver? I just looked online and it looks like lots of places to collect mud on the driver.

No I always checked the thickness of washers before using them. Fender washers vary in thickness quite a bit. I would set the washer them tap the driver with the hammer and they would release. I have very sandy soil here.

Help yourself.

the only trouble I have had with the wolf fangs if I hit a rock. I don't know if it is the driver or the wolf fang, they will stick to the driver and wont stay in the ground. I think it might be the soft metal in the driver forming on the wolf fang.?.?

I've only ever used POGOs.

I have the red handled driver. Had issues with knock off drivers.

I have heavy clay soil. And when it freezes...good luck. Which is why I stick with POGOs...the cost is minimal. I run like 6-8" of chain off my last swivel and 10-12" of cable. That way all the cable is in the dirt and not sticking up out of the ground...and keeps the cable in better condition IMO. Every few seasons I replace all the cable.

I haven't had an issue with them. And I can always get them high enough to snip the cable and leave it if it's not coming out. Some others are expensive enough I wouldn't like leaving them.

Also a nice thing is you can use different size washers. If you have heavy clay you can get by with smaller washers. If it's sand or mud you can run a bigger washer and longer cable.

Never had issues with them not releasing. Drive it down, give the side of the driver a few taps and pull it up. A pilot hole with rebar is wise in rocks or heavy tree roots etc just to find a place it will drive.

Yes several times, and I've had the J hook shear off in rocky ground too, with the best driver and other makes of them, I really like the way they hold though, just not for rocky ground, or you will bend washers and break J hooks.

Home made pipe anchor stakes are what I have used for 27 years now. They work great for me, very few problems no more or less then any other type of anchoring system. Economical and easy to drive for the most part.

Jason I am happy with them. I don't do a lot of water trapping though. But I would think if the bottom of the creak or river your trapping in was a solid bottom they would work just fine. I usually have 16 - 18 inch cable on mine and even tried pulling them out in the spring time with a atv winch and they don't come out. Usually have to dig them out. I know they are suppose to be disposable but I am tight and reuse them if they are in good shape.

I went from Berkshire to wolf fangs and probably wont switch unless I prove that there’s something better.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm tight too and only 'dispose' of them if I can't pull or dig them out!

Get a full sized pick ax, use the point end in cable loop or swivel and pry it out, if it won't come out, the blade digs fast to get close to anchor, been doing this for 25 years
I make my own pipe anchors too, buy pipe at metal shop, cut pieces with chop saw, then we'll a nut on top
