What brand and size of Glover needle do you recommend for sew furs like beaver? How about thinner leather furs?

I use Havels.

I buy the Tandy Leather ones (on Amazon) and haven’t had any issues. I have size 1 and works great with waxed leather sewing thread. Not sure what you’re doing but look into stiching awls also.

I couldn't tell you how many skins/pelts I have sewn on in my life, but it is a bunch. I always used post mortem needles ("S" needle) as apposed to glover's needles. I found that they left my hands much less sore after long bouts of bullet-hole repair in my taxidermy shop. If your interested in trying them out, McKenzie Taxidermy Supply has gobs of them.

I have four inch for heavy pelts and a two inch for smaller ones, some times I will just use a straight four inch regular needle.

Get all mine through Van Dykes taxidermy supply on the net, don't remember what brand or who makes them, but the triangle ones are the glovers.

I also have them real sharp makes it a lot easier for the heavy pelts, thick like beaver and badger.

I use the S needle myself. Just straightened it a little more to my liking.

I get surgical needles from the local vet.

Jonh James is what we use. I don't like the big sizes for furs. 2 or smaller. I actually sew holes in hides with beading needles and thread. But not everyone wants to go that small.

Number 5 or number 7-small-goes thru raw hide or leather like butter.
