My guess is that the Special Use permit required to operate a commercial operation on NPS lands are suspended during furlough but that is only a guess.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Not yet. I am not getting paid but have enough in savings to last at least 6 months. After that I have some other money in retirement accounts. Before I do that my wife will go back to work as an RN.

I am one of those awful Federal employees and I voted for Trump. I support building a border wall. It amazes me how many people I work with have no money in savings. I have 4 kids and my wife has not worked in several years yet I have still managed to put money in savings. I also contribute 10% of my pay to my 401k.

The people at work that are worried to death are mostly democrats that like to buy a new car every few years and constantly post the useless things they buy on Facebook. I actually enjoy listening to all the crying. They are blaming Trump for their failure to plan. All Federal employees know the government shuts down from time to time yet most aren’t prepared when it does.

Mrob, thank you for understanding and patience. You are totally right in your assessment of the whiners problem. I don't even think the word "BUDGET" is in their dictionary! They know where they work and they got to know this happens from time to time. No prep for the future.

If only some of you knew half of what you're talking about. I'm an intermittent employee which means I only work when there's work. It amounts to pretty much full time...usually. Right now I'm not allowed to work on federally funded projects so I'm not getting about 20 hours a week and I WILL NOT get paid for those. Maybe some of the know it alls around here will invent a time machine so I can go back for those hours when the shutdown ends.

So , are you saying that you are not getting paid for hours that you did not work ?

They just shut down the king salmon season again two days ago. That means I will never get paid. Things can be worse than a delayed paycheck. They happen all the time here.

Not my gig, have never done it but if a fed worker took unemployment insurance (or whatever its formally called) and then got their furloughed pay, they would have to pay back the unemployment payment. Sounds like a PIA to me...

Most of the park rangers may not be working but USFWS law enforcement may still be monitoring the park boundaries. YNP is one of the country's showcase parks and its wildlife is one of the big attractions. I would think anyone killing a wolf inside the boundaries could be prosecuted to the full extent of the law if caught. I don't think a wolf hide is worth that risk but somebody else may get off on the cat-and-mouse challenge of trying not to get caught.

They really should pass a law when they shut down the government, no one pays taxes. End that little game quickly. Smucks!!!!

You think stopping tax payments would affect how quick they re-start , try shutting down EBT cards .
