Sorry if this has been covered before, I did a search and didn’t see anything on it.
What do you guys do after a fresh 3-4 inches of snow? I am using footholds using dirt hole, flat sets and urine post sets.
Would you brush them off or let them go for a while? Thanks for any help

If you feel the set is capable of working, leave it alone.

If you feel it’s froze up, or it’s a type of snow that could impede the sets effectiveness, clean em off.

4-6 inches of dry, light snow is not the same as 2” of wet heavy snow.

Also take the extended forecast into account. If it’s all gonna melt off in a day or two, get it off there now before it turns to water.

Are you trapping for coyotes or cats?If coyotes leave them alone if it is a dry snow.

Make sets where the sun and wind will help keep your sets clean off and make more flat sets and post sets. The "Pipe Dream Set" and the "Portable Pocket" sets both work good in the snow.

Watch the weather. If it's a dry snow and the temps stay low you'll likely be alright. If it's wet snow and the temps plummet, you'll likely be dealing with crusted over traps that won't fire or the animals weight can't fire.

Our season ended at the end of December and I pulled my snow covered traps. I took a stick and probed for the pans. They fired fine. I bed in waxed sand and cover with peat or local duff if I can get to it.
