I'm adding some #4DLS to my bag of tricks... mostly going to be exposed cat traps.

The pans are HORRIBLE. I don't know much about DLS but there doesn't seem to be a way to add tension or remove pan slop.

If I order PIT pans for them, will they work?? Not sure how they are attached...

I love the concept...they sit very nice. About the biggest jaw spread I can run...I'd like to add pan tension and remove the slop though...then fashion a bigger pan or a stiff screen or shingle cover to take advantage of the kill area....

Thanx!

I used pit pans for my #3 victors...worked out well...little learning curve to get your pan tension where you want it...but much easier than the stock pans...

Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes......
Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....

Thanks guys!

Any reason you guys use #3s over #4s???

Seems #3s are a good bit easier to come by...but the #4 has about a 1-1.5" extra jaw spread.

I don't need a ton of cat traps....we can only take 1 during a short season....but, I have a lot of rock that cats favor. Figured adding a stash of DLS was a worthy investment. I didn't like setting my Bridger #2 coils on the ground exposed. They didn't sit well. The #4DLS I have I'd be comfortable setting on my concrete basement floor.

Maybe I should go with 3s when I find more....? My thought was get the biggest kill area I can.

I have 4's for cat trapping also...

Used 3's this year only to lighten up the weight a bit for hiking into my cat areas...

Plus I got a good deal on the 3's...

In my opinion only, just me, I can't see a cat ever getting out of a 3...strong trap I think...

Not so much worried about one getting out....but, once they get above 30lbs their feet start getting pretty big. Plus using them on walk throughs and blind sets...a 4 will cover a little bigger area...

Try the wax on the dog and notch connection and two drops on each side.
I don't use #4s but I use #2 DLS and #2 jumps. The wax gives me about 2lb tension on a strong trap.
Just want works for me.

Dumb question, why do you need a big trap for bobcat? They don't seem that hard to hold. I can see a #2... but the bigger traps have to be hard on them.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

It's not about holding power. It's about controlling more ground.

IMO my SC #4 DLS traps are no harder on a Bobcat than your #2, & probably not as hard, as the cat or any other animal will not fight the DLS #4 as hard as a smaller trap. Reason is the weight of the trap on the foot.

I agree with you, It is about controlling the ground, & my 6 1/2" jaw spread covers more area with my large pan than any #2 trap will ever cover. With a 1/2" wide holding surface on the jaws of my DLS #4 traps, I have caught Coon, Coyotes, Fox & Fisher with no damage to any feet on these animals & you could not tell what foot they were caught in, after removal.
