Guys I have spent several hours now looking for my cats. I'm using mostly #3 coild springs with six foot of chain hooked to a pretty simple piece of rebar bent and welded into somewhat of a "w" shape. I'm trapping the oregon coast and if you aint seen it it is verry thick brush but they seem to travel along ways through it. Im trying to get my catch out of sight of the public. Its just slightly extreme. I get no drag marks either. Anyone have pics of a good drag i could get ideas from and maybe a weight? Mine are pretty light. Thanks guys

I use Conner's "Tracker" drags with 8 feet of chain.

Pre hook them if you can in the brush if you can tangle them away from the set you can save the location to reset it. So when they get caught the make the loop away from the set and wrap around something away to save the set.

1 2 3

So 1 is the set, 2 is where you prehook the drag and 3 is where they wrap around.

Your cats are probably not to far from the set site. Look skyward up in the trees. Drags are not very good for cats unless quite heavy or large poles.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Cat traps on drags can be a real challenge even in the thick stuff on the west coast of Oregon and Washington.
I know of one guy in Washington who used to set his cat traps on a long beaver drowning cable (with sliding lock) from where the trap is originally set leading back into thick brush where the cat would be hidden. He set a lot of his cat traps along logging roads where a trapped cat would otherwise be visible without the "drowning" cable.

I'm run 10' of #3 twist link chain and good heavy drags. Heavy drag and chain will tangle them up fast even in clear cuts. I thought I had some pics of the set up but can't find them.

Putting them on a cable with a drowner lock as waggler suggested is another good option.

add about four more feet of chain. buy or make a good drag style. best drags I have are the ones hal suggested. not cheap but worth the price

2nd best are these made by rich kasper.

these work too. make or buy some like one of these three

if you look you will see the fixed points are offset.

I did what Law Dog said when using drags. It's just another way to let them get out of sight.

Home made drags usually lack a good design and sharp points, Armageddon drags from Ogormans are the best, should use 8' of chain too

LT showed me that for trapping and snaring along farm road fencelines...he taught me to put the Yote where it couldn't be seen.

Like said above add at least 4 more feet of chain. Make those drags heavy and turn the points out to opposing 45 degree angles. Cats like to hide too, most of the time on mine if cover is really close they won't even get the drag out of the bed [Linked Image]
