I'm in the market for a new one. I need one that will LAST and I don't care about cost. I've heard that Carlis (sp) and Fur Shed Fab make the best ones, so I'm interested in those. Can someone post a picture of these two (especially the one from Carlis), or tell me where to get the best one available? Thanks!

I have one from Nightstalker1 on here. It has held up very well.

Here is mine. Heat Treated. Out of painted 24" right now. Have unpainted. Carlis makes a good driver as well. The handles on his "float", and are not welded to the driving shaft.

Doesn't matter whose drive you buy, They will all fail eventually, as drivers are probably the most abused tool in the bucket.

I have rednecktrapper’s driver, and even though it’s on it’s first season, I couldn’t be more happy with it.

Fur Shed Fabrication makes the best one I've tried so far. Beat the crap out of it in our rocky soil and no give up in it so far.

[Linked Image]thanks for all the replies. The pictures (I posted in another thread) are the most recent driver I bought. I liked the handle, but was very disappointed with the fact that the shaft was not a solid piece. Those are the pics of the FIRST time I broke it. I rewelded the break but that broke again along with the inner shaft. It is useless now. Does anyone know who makes it? I'm not trying to bash anyone, and you can PM me if you know the maker, I just don't want to buy this one again. I looked on the Sudden Valley website, but there are no pics of their driver. Does anyone have pics of Ogormans driver?

Rednecktrapper- I know they will all eventually fail, but I want one that will last more than 1/2 a season! Yours looks good, by the way.

If you just buy one of Tom Stalker's you'll probably never want to buy another one again. I have John Graham's which I haven't broken yet, but it is starting to catch them on the way out. Stalker's has been used and abused I wouldn't even attempt to count how many times I have hit that thing into frost as deep as 6--8 inches and the only way I can tell it isn't how I purchased it is some chipped paint from the repeated abuse. Once I break his which I will I'll buy another. It's almost been through two seasons of torture now. Also just picked up an auger from him. Class act easy to deal with.

Does Tom Stalker have a website where I can see his driver?

Driver from Sudden Valley. The “floating handle” helps pop it off the fangs if needed.

I like the idea of the "floating handle", but I would be afraid I'd break it. How does that driver hold up, btomlin? I'm looking for something more solid. That driver looks like a shaft inside a sleeve, like the one in my pictures above. That is what I want to get away from.

It’s a solid rod. The upper rod is turned down a smidge so the handle can float and then it appears it is turned dwn again so the nut cant move once you have peened the end. Working for me so far. I am just a bird hunter that traps as hobby though, ie...I’m not very good at trapping. Lol.

You can search Stalker Fabrications on facebook if you have it. Fyi

I'm liking the sudden valley driver so far. You shouldn't break that handle because you don't need to hit it. Nice place for your hand to be while hammering and no shock that way. If needed just tap on the side of the rod and then you can use the handle as a sort of slide hammer (with your hand) to help you get the driver back out of the ground. Relatively light also.

This is a picture directly from that link he posted. If you can't get the online site to load he is on facebook…..he's also on here. Mine looks about like that just two years of service under it. Lighter than Graham's.

Tom is a retired toolmaker. He makes a great driver, and augers. Lives in some rocky ground in NY state. When I was home for a wedding last summer I drove down and visited. Picked up a driver and an auger. Both work great. He also does trap modifications.
