Just curious if many others get bobcats that had been shot prior to catching them. The one I got this year had a lead ball about 30 Calibur I would say, possible buck shot? The ball was just under the skin and stayed on skin between it and the membrane. The cat my buddy Marshall got had a 22 bullet in the left front leg, it was fairly new.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I get coyotes with bird shot under their skin, usually a couple a year, a year I snared over 100 fox I guessed 15% had bird shot in them, one female in snare wasn't very active, she had big hemorages in her belly, new wounds from bird shot

I shot a bull moose eighty miles away from the nearest road that had buckshot just under its hide. Guys having fun from planes I suspected.

I have never skinned a bobcat. Eventually Ohio will have a bobcat season. I frequently find bullets and buckshot in coyotes and occasionally broadheads and slugs in deer. I think coyotes are despised enough that people will frequently take a shot at them just to cripple them up, so they die, if possible. A lot of people probably feel similar to bobcats as they do coyotes.

I skinned a coyote with a. 177 pellet in it's hind end. Lots with birdshot. Lots of beaver with assorted projectiles.

Had a cat in Arizona that was peppered with fine shot (quail load most likely) was in fair shape considering it took a lot of pellets, yotes here often have pheasant loads or waterfowl loads in their rear ends. Just people poking and hoping.

I’ve had 22 bullets hit the floor while skinning lynx. Got a wolf last year with a lot of buckshot in it.

Lots of coyotes I've skinned had bullets or buckshot just under the skin.

Had a roadkill bobcat this year with a healed up entrance and exit wound and some fragments under the skin. And a beaver with a whole bunch of birdshot under the leather. Those pellets sure do make fleshing more difficult.

I've seen that alot in critters, even coons. Lot of trigger happy people out there. Had a yote from SD I just put up the other day had a light load under it's skin from one end to the other, even in the ears when I took the cartilage out. Caught a yote a year or two back that was bouncing in the set like normal, when I got him home and skinned him, he had a 22 sized entrance hole on one side and about a quarter sized exit on the other, right through the boiler room. After skinning, I did a little exploration, the bullit went between the ribs, both sides, and above the lungs and just below the backbone and muscle mass. Would be hard to accomplish that feat on purpose, bur anything is possible. The wound wasn't but about a week old!

I found an old healed up bullet wound on a coyote, went through at least one lung, they are tough, but I think elk are tougher

I caught a coon this fall that had 4 or 5 pellets under the skin in his neck. Not from a shotgun, but from a pellet gun. Not sure how you would get that many in with a pellet gun. Oh, and he was over a mile from the nearest road.

I had a mule deer mounted some years back and taxy told me it had shotgun bee's in the chest/neck/face area. He said, bird hunters most likely took a shot at him. I was very surprised when he told me that. Not very ethical and sad news to hear.

About 80% of the cats I have caught in the West have had old, new bullet wounds or tissue buried BB's in them when skinning.Small game hunters jump up or their dogs run cats out of cover and they can't pass up the opportunity to take a shot of any kind in their direction.

Coyotes and fox have their fair share of stories to be told when you skin them out as well. Wild animals are very hardy creatures I have found over my lifetime. They can survive what may seem to be life altering injures that would prevent their long term survival but they make it.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but how about broadheads in deer and elk?

No. I can honestly say I have not seen a cat here with lead of any sort. Maybe a natural wound, some sort of puncture or broken bone.
