I know this question might sound silly. But what type of fur would make the best snowmobile seat cover?

Otter; all other furs are rated based on otter being rated at 100%. I can't remember which is rated lowest, either chinchilla or rabbit at 5%.9

Beaver is a very durable fur and otter. Thick leather long hair doesn’t hold up well as guard hair breaks off giving a rubbed look

bearhide hands down.Very big in Quebec for the trailriders.Use Velcro strips to hold it on.Big with bikers too in summer. I always had a couple bearhides in the sleigh when bringing the kids on the trapline in winter when they were small. At lunch time just flip the sleigh upside down shake out the bearhides and youhad a comfy couch to sit on .

What is it rated on? Since otter is the most durable fur it is given the arbitrary rating of 100%. Lets say muskrat will wear out in half the time as otter it would be given a rating of 50%. I'll see if I can find an online reference; the reference I cited was from a long out of print book titled "Fur", a great book if you find it.

I’ve seen a few made with caribou which has hollow hair and holds heat very well. Shoot, one fart at the start of the day and your seat will be warm all day.
