Never forget that awful day, and all those who lost their lives, December 7, 1941.

I hope we dont forget 6/6 or 9/11 either. We lost a lot of fine Americans on all 3

We must never, never forget Pearl Harbor. When I was standing above the Arizona there is still oil seeping out of her. I am very saddened by all of the men entombed within her and all that died or wounded that awful day. God Bless America!

That day was Sgt. Wrights birthday. RIP big man.

Kind of makes the bickering of today look like practice for real trouble.

I've been to Pearl Harbor three times, usually just a half day stop to take on fuel, mail and some stores. In 1974, I was en-route to SE Asia on my second tour over there on Navy destroyers, and we had a three day layover in Pearl. I'm somewhat of a history buff and I took the tour to the Arizona Memorial as I had wanted to see it for years and finally had the opportunity.

If I remember correctly, the Memorial straddles the U.S.S. Arizona at a 90 degree angle, over the base of one of the gun mounts. The actual gun mounts themselves ( and remaining superstructure ) were removed in the months after the attack. I do not recall whether the Memorial is over the bow or the rear ( fantail ) of the ship. Little "globules" of fuel oil still leak from the ship's fuel bunkers and float to the surface.

It was in awe as I stood there. It was very quiet, even with about fifty ( or so ) other people there. This experience I'll never forget.

ALL ships that pass the Arizona always render a full, formal salute.

Regards, Vic

Raymond Lyle Richar Seaman first class Died on Dec 7 1941 on the Arizona my mothers cousin

Within days all of her brothers enlisted all 7 of them, only 3 made it back home, dad and his 3 brothers all enlisted one never got off the beach at Normandy and one was so crippled he walked with crunches the rest of his life, I never heard any of them complain about what they went through even though I know everyone of them had problems such as dad who had nightmares almost nightly

There is a reason they are called the greatest generation, looking around today you have to wonder what the kids of today would do faced with something like Pearl Harbor, just how many would want to try to pacify their attackers, make concession, or otherwise try and make nice nice with them because its OUR fault that they attacked us in the first place

I know there are many that would stand up and fight but I just don't see the same spirit, to many seem to have been brainwashed to believe that anything that happens to America is our fault no matter what or by whom

Was it Admiral Yamamoto architec of Pearl Harbor who said Japan did not consider invading America’s west coast because there was a gun behind every tree?

God bless the boys of Pearl.

Right guy, wrong quote. smile

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."
is a quote by Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Of course it was originally stated in Japanese, this is the English translation.

Salute to them all. Sad that the last 5 survivors couldn’t get there due to bad health of all being in mid 90’s

Don't forget that 36,000 Americans Prisoners of War were used by Japanese companies as slave labor during WWII. 7000 of the American Prisoners of War were killed by those companies. Toyota and Mitsubishi were among the culprits. I will never buy a Japanese car for this reason. We should have executed all the leadership of those companies, rather than give them the help to destroy our automotive industry.

Although not in Pearl Harbor. My father enlisted during WW2. If alive today. He would be 100 years old. I really miss that man. I learned so much from him. God bless.
