Really do not get a lot of wasted meat on a buckshot deer. Pellets put a hole thru them but not much expansion and not the shock causing bloodshot meat you get from a rifle or slug. Biting into a steak sometimes you will spit out a pellet just like when eating a goose or pheasant.
One negative thing is I have killed some bucks where a pellet took off a tine or made a hole in a main beam.. Shot a spike once and took off both horns about 5 inches up from his head, I think with the same pellet!

Just like any ammunition most of the problem stands behind the gun. Once a year hunters and if ya' can see it shoot at it bone heads.

Buckshot does not do a lot of meat damage since they expand very little.

At close range buckshot will flatten a deer. If you are running dogs or hunting thick swamps where tracking is nearly impossible nothing is better than buckshot.

Love my scoped rifled slug barrel on my old wingmaster. It doesn’t shoot buckshot nice at all. I used to use 00 in the 30 inch full choke barrel in the thickets. It worked fine but you are really handicapped on range. Depends on where you hunt I suppose. Congrats to op on the new notch.

Each to their own I guess. Some folks shoot squirrels with a shotgun too. I prefer a rifle.

My son works on a private plantation and December through the end of season is thin the doe herd time. He shoots a M2 12ga with a Sumtoy Buckshot Choke with 3” 00 buck on their midday drives. Best day so far was 9 with 9 shots. He said he was dropping deer anywhere from 30-70 yards. I use it for walking the swamp bottoms getting rid of hogs. All I want is to put a few holes in them so I know they’ll run off and die, buckshot pretty much guarantees that multiple hogs are taking lead when grouped up.
