The problem I see Is If you set these huts and when the coyote destroys the hut are you going to be charged with destroying the hut?
If It were me I'd be trying to get permission and set those spots where the coyotes leave the Ice. Or maybe just toss out a chunk of burnt wood To act as scent post. Or this might be the perfect time to use the tire set. You could even use the tire for a drag. It has great eye appeal and you can stash the bait up In the interior of the tire. Bedding the trap on the Ice Is going to be the problem.

Keets, Thanks- Jeff has great videos- I'll check it out. Beav- I was looking for options off the house for the exact reason you mentioned. i.e.; hay mound set or some other method where traps don't freeze in.

Can you snare the cattail runs with a rebar tangle rod? If not I'd look at the wilderness page and see how the northern guys set their snowmobile tracks off the back of the sled. It sure works here, but we don't have coyotes, if you know what I mean. Cordless drill and warm battery is your friend as is any large log you can pull onto the ice as a pee spot/ drag. Good for fox too.

During the mating season they love to "mark" houses but if they are in cattails too much they will get rubbed like when they hangout in sunflower too long. I always wanted to bury a trap/drag in the ice with dry dirt and see if a yote would work that but never took the time to try it. Might be a project for later this year thought if a guy let the drag freeze down it would work like a stake then as tracking a drag on a like would suck.

Just take some long 1/2" lags and drill them right Into the ice with your cord less drill. I would use something about 6" long. Or just spud a hole and drop In a dead man.

The lags bolts made ice trapping fun and nothing is going to pull them. That's a great idea... That's how we zip in the anchors for Ice Shelters I knew if you guys had enough coffee the good ideas would start to flow.
