Take the lights off of them and make them look like those old time wind mills. Maybe then I'd like them?

The two turbines will generate electricity at 78 cents a kilowatt-hour—compared with 9.4 cents for new onshore wind, 5.6 cents for new solar, and around three cents for energy bought on the open market.

Within a decade or so they will be trying to peddle them as good reef building structure as they will be dead and obsolete.

I use to blast and paint them, quite the view standing on top of one. Lots of residents complained about them and had signs done up to display their displeasure.

I absolutely hate the looks of them. Makes the whole landscape look bad for miles around.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

They have set up a tower close to my house to test the wind and are signing up farmers with contracts very few have signed so far.
When I built my house in 98 I built it for the view now they want to ruin that. I just know that if this goes through my house value will drop and all the hard work I have done and the money spent will be lost.
It makes me sick every time I see these things now
Every time we get a new visitors to our home they always comment about the view. How do you get people to understand money is not everything. Most of the people that want them already have money and are just greedy.

They put in close to a 100 in my area about a year ago. Upset a lot of folks around here, close to half of the windmills were on 4 big farmers property. They came around offering big piles of money to people to put windmills up as well as just to let them burry there power lines across different properties. I don’t know if the property value has gone down but I would bet the number of people interested in the property around here has gone down. No one wants to move to the country to live under the shadow of a 500 ft wind turbine. As for the noise, just depends on the direction of the wind but you can definitely hear them.

In our neck of the woods farmers and landowners are all trying to increase their income either by windmills or hog buildings. It seems in some areas there is hog confinement building on every quarter section of land.

The stench from those hog confinements will take your breath away especially now that crops are out and everyone that has one of those confinements are pumping the manure out of them. NW Iowa just stinks until freeze up and we get a good snow cover.

I'm not a great fan of windmills but from what I understand the pay per acre is pretty good and they don't smell. For the naysayers that complain about the subsidies, name some industry that does not have their hand out for your tax dollar. What will happen to all those hog confinements when they rot and sit empty as some of the first one are doing now.

If given a choice I would rather have a windmill across the road than have a hog confinement.

Have 200 wind towers just south of us, 81 just getting finished up north and they will be starting on 187 west of us this spring. I don't like the looks of them, but understand the revenue they create for the farmers. Seem to bring a lot of money into the county and for the school systems. As for the noise they produce, they are no worse than listening to irrigation motors or fans on the grain bins. I totally agree with beeman, would rather have them than a hog unit.

I have them around me. Closest is just under a half mile away and with certain winds it sounds like a train standing on my back deck. Our property values within the "wind farm" have gone down since it began operation. The landowners that did sign for easements are NOT getting close to what they were promised as far as money goes.

Here is a wind tower turbine boondoggle you paid for for directly, rather than through corporate welfare. It towers proudly over the veterans hospital as a monumental testament to the ineptitude of bureaucracy, but it is coming down soon if it has not already. I guess it embarrasses the fat government suit dummies who drive to and from work under it's shadow everyday. Please read.

I agree that a hog or chicken farm would be also bad.
Thanks for the article FlyinFinn

Makes one wonder how many other towers never were certified as well. Paid out 2.27 million and got back 450,000. Seems we are on the hook like always. The demolition cost will be added as well to OUR tab on this boondoggle. The constant change to bigger has made it a losing proposition as when the current models go down there are NO parts to repair them and a retrofit no where to be found either.

There are a handful of smaller wind farms around us but none within 10 miles. Most are 15-40 units. Most are about 10-12 years old.
There is one about 50 miles from us where they are cutting the turbines down. I believe they are just scrap now. Don't know the history on that one as to lease time etc. etc.

No worries. They will eventually go the way of the windmill,

I work for a coal fired electric generation company and I’m gonna lose my job in 6 months because of renewable energy. Our fourth largest customer told the company I work for by 2020 all of their electricity has to come from renewable energy or they will go elsewhere for their energy needs. Which got the company I work for attention real quick, plus the government told the company I work for that no matter the cost to build these wind and solar farms it would be reimbursed 100 percent by the taxpayers.

you mean 110%. most of it is cost plus contracts. the more they spend the more they make. there is some oversight but its pretty amazing the ways they dream up to spend money.
