A public hanging ..as a deterrent....

Not only were this pair destructive, they were completely nocturnal. Watching to see where they were working and where they were denning was a waste of time. I finally just put on waders and walked the bank till I found a den entrance and set there.

That color is pretty average for the beavers around here.

It could be more but the traps are still out with nothing but muskrat activity.

Good job on the trapping. I like the hanging rack. Looks like room for one more customer.
Gotta say, I've never heard the term "nice young cottonwoods". Biggest and most Dangerous weed in the woods. They might make good toilet paper fiber, otherwise they have little value.

Good for you! Couple years ago at my cabin up North, I put up 6 cords of firewood without cutting down a tree! That hat fall I took my revenge! Two of the four weighed in at over 50 lbs. Bones them out for preserved coyote bait. Haven't had a problem since. It's been 30+ years ago, so I can't remember if it was a friend of mine, or his neighbor it happened to.......but they had some aspen blow over during a storm along the edge of a pond/marsh on the back of their land where they used to picnic. They cleaned up the mess and cut all the trees into firewood for the campfire, even stacking it neatly where they cut it. The next time they went back there the beaver in the pond had carted off the whole bunch of it.

That is the color of most of ours here. Anything caught towards the Missouri river all grade pale or extra pale. We are getting darker ones in this area over the last few years. I have 8 from the local river ready and 2 will be pale and the other 6 will make brn-dk brn. Beaver pelts worth anything right now? I trapped 4 that were damaging my trees a couple of weeks ago but I don't think they were prime yet anyway. I plan to donate the hides to an educational program for trapping but pan to take the castor first and use the carcasses for coyote bait
