Anyone have good results using Weiser horsemeat bait in cold/winter weather? I've never tried any of his lures and want a loud long lasting bait for some sets I'll have out most of the winter.

His horse meat bait is definitely loud, and works very well when it’s cold. His Montana Long Call is one of my favorite call lures. Also, if you want something loud, his rattlesnake based bait is about as loud as it gets.

Andy makes great stuff, I've had really good results with his horse meat bait. It seems to last a long time at the set, scent wise.

Is it the base or the additives that make rattlesnake loud?

The horsemeat bait, range boss, and his fish bait are all good baits to use. I've had good success with them.

Thanks for the replies, Ill have to pm him and see what bait would work best. I have two properties that have coyotes visiting old rotten carcasses and they don't seem interested in normal baits or lures. Not even skunk based gets their attention. They walk within six inches of a few sets quite a few times in the last week and don't even slow down or stop. And they are walking not running. Plus I'm gonna have sets in high deer areas later after gun season and I don't want to have to rebait very often or even go close for that matter. They get really skittish when there's human sign on the ground.

I’m not sure about that because I’ve never used another rattlesnake Lure to compare it to, but I’m sure Andy would answer that for you.

Up in this area it gets plenty cold for plenty long. Andys Montana long call works very well here for lots of animals.

Osky,
Are you using it as the primary lure right at the set? or up high like a call lure?

Walleye, I have good luck using it about 3 ft off the ground like a call lure. It has a really easy consistency to work with too.

I'm trying some of Andy's horse meat bait this year. Personally, I don't think it's all that loud. I'm not discrediting or bashing it in any way, or saying that it won't work, I just don't find the smell to be very strong. I have high hopes though!

I've used his horse meat during the deep winter. It's awesome. I saved a good amount for this year.
The horse meat I have is very runny so it's gonna used as a liquid bait this year. It soaks in and the yotes has to dig it all up but before he does.... Bang

His range boss is my favorite go to prepared bait.
I use the Montana long call modified. Awesome lure.

Thanks Osky,
Bought a bottle this year and was using it early as a call. Problem is it's hard to tell when a call lure is working or if you'd have caught one anyway. Planning to try it down the hole now in colder temps.

Bought a case of long call from Andy. Works very well at bait stations in the cold in Canada. Used his horse meet in traps and it outperformed two other big name brands. I'm mostly a snare guy and long call brings the animals in you just have to get them. I use long call on my fisher boxes and when it's -30 here I can smell it a month later at the set. Andys a great person but he is busy on his trap lines right now. He might answer pms if he has service in the mountains.

Yes. I live in one of the coldest areas in the country and I use Andy’s baits and lures almost exclusively. They just flat produce. Andy knows what he’s doing. And he’s a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) of a nice guy to boot. My favorites are horse meat bait, long call, carcass wasteland, and supercat

I take just a smidge of it and put it up on a nearby tree, they will then find what’s in the ground when close. Right or wrong that’s how I do it, same vicinity, same smell. This winter I will be working on a few different variations as I am using more cages for cats.

None better in my opinion....you just can’t beat Andy...I have total confidence using his products, never sweat when I’m making a set I just grab one out of my bag set it and go...

Would Weisers rattlesnake based lure be good to use in areas where rattlesnakes are not common? Or would coyotes shy from it?
