I just had a series of pictures from one trail cam taking pics of a big blacktail buck walking down a trail where a red glow camera was. The buck jumped and ran when the red glow camera turned on. I've seen a few pictures from the camera that scared the animal, but this was the first series of pics that showed what happened from another angle. I try to use all black flash cams, or even white flash cams, but I still have a few red glow cameras- in this case a bushnell. Normally not much of a problem, but this bucks sure was scared. He came right back the next night though.

I have no doubt some cameras will spook game... Many hear the camera shutter or see the low glow red (I spook less game with white flash and no glow)... I have a spot I got one picture of a coyote and it spooked and never came back to that area... I will at time set up multi cameras in one location and have noticed animals reactions to the flash and sound... For sure bushnell is one camera I don't get a sound reaction to... Two different locations where deer were right on the camera with no noticeable reaction: These are three (3)pictures not the same picture repeated... ... ,.,.

Most times they are startled due to hearing them, it catches them way off guard so their first instinct is to flee, flashes also can get them nervous, they catch these through their prehephiel(sp) vision which is much more sensitive to different wave lengths in light
Bears are attracted to the smell of them, plastics are always out gassing and they smell it from a long distance, this is why they make a beeline right to them when they scent them, very rarely do they actually see them. But it makes us think they have seen them.
This was particularly bad when cam's first came out and used film, bears could smell the film and it got them going for some reason, they would really give the cams a go.
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

from what i've seen on my cameras - some spook, most don't
i assume if they spook, they are already kinda worked up about something and the camera is the last straw.

Who cares about deer? They spook fox, too. Sometimes I think our fox are just more nervous then in some regions.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.
