Is another name for the same plant “foxglove”? If not, maybe they are related?

The flowers can be soaked in olive oil and the oil placed in ears. Supposed to help with ear aches.

Just a word of caution. A website I found said this, "Although the leaves feel soft and fuzzy they do not make good "wild" toilet paper as the small hairs can get stuck in your skin which is very uncomfortable". eek

I am thinking that your website source may be missing something. First year of the mullen plant is a low lying plant and the most wonderful natural or man made toilet paper ever created (I'll bet Moses had 2 of them on the Arc. smile )
Perhaps that author had issue with the second year growth of the plant when it has the upright stalk.

I had a friend who used it when his sinuses where stuffed up. He'd take the dried leaves, place them in a pan of boiling water, throw a towel over his head and inhale the steam; said it worked miracles.

Gryhkl, leaves or roots made into tea, Willey firewood, foxglove is a different plant. Teas were used as medicine long before they became a beverage. Bob

Awesome thread. Mostly good info and most of the info I know about mullein has been covered. I can add that the smoke from the dried leaves clears the sinuses. Amazing how little it takes.

Be advised: Jack-in-the-pulpit is deadly when not handled correctly.

Not really. It was a joke, hence the addition of the Smiley face.
