How much dye to 3 gallons of water? How long do they simmer in dye? Can I wax just by putting a thin layer on the surface and then dipping my land traps back through?

One bag, 45 min, and yes. Word of caution wax is flammable be careful mixing wax and water. That said that's how I do all my traps the wax is not as nice as doing it separately but it works.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Okay, thank you. I would do it the other way, but I dont have near enough wax to do that.

When you boil traps all the things you want removed from them will float to the top of the water. If you place the wax there, guess what will contaminate your wax? I suggest doing the waxing separate.

But the method of dipping them through works? As opposed to a pot of pure wax?

I did it that way years ago.

If I was worried about the cost of that much wax and was doing the over water deal I’d do it like this. Boil and dye, flooding the gunk off the top of the water. Then remove and rinse traps. Put fresh water in boil pot and use it to melt wax on top. Be careful as if you have a rolling boil the wax will move away from the roll, if that makes sense.

This way the gunk is gone, and although the wax won’t stick anywhere as well on wet steel, it is better than nothing.

only if you want the gunk and poop from your traps glued to them.

pour/flood the floating gunk off first, THEN add the wax
