So...my hometown of Pawnee City NE started having a "harvest bash" a number of years ago. Had a big pumpkin contest, among other activities. Well, last year pumpkins were hauled from UTAH to extreme SE Nebraska and took all top places and took the prize money back to Utah. Local residents didn't see the fun in it anymore so this year there was no harvest bash.

Pumpkin Greed sounds like a band name.

Make a rule only locals and locally harvested pumpkins are eligible to participate

Seems a little childish to me lol. Just reinstitue contest with participation trophies only.

What was the amount of the money prize? Saw three pumpkins last week on a truck and trailer. Each of them were 6' diameter and probably close to 4' tall.

Take the $$ out of the equation and likely solve the problem.

I don't know what the prize $ was. Never attended one. Apparently enough to drive from Utah with a load of punkins.

Gary ALL the big competition guys do this....The money is the driving force..One of the weigh-offs in CA. last year was won by a guy from Wisconsin and I think he took home $13,000.00.....The big weigh-off I think in Half Moon Bay sponsored by safe-way pays by the pounds and if memory serves me the winner took home something North of $17,000.00......The growers club in Wisconsin set a new top ten record this year of 10 pumpkins all over 2000 pound average.....Lockport,IL pays $4000 for first and is won mostly by guys from Wisconsin.....Take the prize money away and they will not come...Or put it out there that to claim prize money you must prove pumpkin is grown in NE. The biggest grown in North America this year on the east coast Steve Geddes was just over 2500 and is the second largest in the World. These guys must go where the money is to recover the cost of growing a beast that big---some say it costs a $1 a pound to grow them that big...My biggest was 1076 and I placed 7th.
